scooters smash out headlights,
my trigger finger
curses at the driver’s brain
so Marines won’t reach
Oakland’s Induction Center
then Nam.
Fender mind-bending Shut-It-Down
insurrection, how amazing
that I didn’t land in jail
or worse.

a. Mean Streets
Country rube, empty grocery bags got stole right from my shopping cart.
b. Toxic Fields
For health this rag pile ran in asbestos, ate brown rice grown in arsenic.
BIO:
Gerard Sarnat’s academic work has appeared in publications at Harvard, Stanford, Oberlin, among many. His poetry has been featured in the LA Times, NY Times, Pandemonium Press and others.
As an activist working with marginalized populations, he wrote his first book, Homeless Chronicles and followed with two collections Disputes, and Melting the Ice King. Additionally, Mr. Sarnat has received honors and awards domestically and internationally including the Pushcart.
